Since the PSVR is a tricky beast to adjust, we figured this post would be more helpful than most. In this article, we’ll go over a few of our favorite methods to get your IPD just right for your preferences.
I am writing this article because I have been having an issue with my IPD setting in PSVR. For those who do not know, IPD stands for Inter Pupillary Distance. It is a measurement of the distance between the eyes of the user, for users of VR headsets. The current PSVR IPD setting is for 5mm. I have set mine to 6.5mm. I have tried playing with the optical tracking in the settings, but it does not seem to affect the IPD setting.
My name is Tyler, and I’ve had my PlayStation VR since it first came out. One of my favorite things about it is being able to make adjustments to the headset’s IPD (interpupillary distance, the distance between your pupils). When you first get the device, it’s easy to set your IPD in software, but that setting doesn’t always line up with what you see in the headset. That’s where this guide comes in.
There are many individuals who are interested in the PlayStation VR but are unsure how to get the most out of the experience. There are a lot of things you can do with the two PlayStation Move controllers to improve your game, but the most essential thing you can do is do it without touching your TV or playing the game. The inter-pupillary distance (IPD) may be adjusted in the settings menu, but what exactly is it? What is the mechanism behind it? What’s more, how do you go about accomplishing it? This handbook contains all of this information and more.
The PlayStation VR has just one variable focus distance (IFD) setting, which must be set to 50mm in order for the VR headset to work properly. You may verify the minimum IPD distance by looking at the lens on the headset or using the “PlayStation VR System Setup” menu option:
You may not have heard of the inner screen distance (ISD) in VR, but it’s a crucial parameter to remember when configuring your HMD.
Unlike the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, PlayStation VR does not include a slider or dial to modify the interpupillary distance (IPD) in the headset. Instead, the PSVR comes with software that takes a picture of your face and lets you move crosshairs over your eyes. The rest is taken care of for you automatically. Unfortunately, this technique isn’t completely exact, and perfecting it may take many tries.
What are the reasons you should be worried about IPD? Your image will be blurry if it isn’t set up properly, causing eye strain and headaches. Vlaid, a Reddit user, created a chart that shows how to mechanically (rather than physically) change the interpupillary distance in PlayStation VR to get the best IPD and image. It works flawlessly and is much more precise than relying on software.
Take a measurement of the size of your pupils.
The first step is to measure the distance between your eyes using a genuine ruler and a mirror.
- Hold the ruler slightly over your nose, behind your eyes.
- You should shut your left eye.
- While gazing directly into your right pupil, line up the end of the ruler with the center of your right pupil. From this point forward, do not move the ruler.
- Close one eye and then open the other.
- Measure the diameter of your left pupil in millimeters.
This is your interpupillary distance, and it will be used in the next section. Make a mental note of it.
Manually adjust the IPD on your PlayStation 4.
You may go to your PS4 and manually change your IPD using the chart now that you’ve established your IPD using the method outlined above.
- Choose from a variety of choices.
- Select your gadgets.
- Choose PlayStation VR from the drop-down menu.
- From the drop-down option, choose Measure Eye-to-Eye Distance.
- The next option should be chosen.
- Select OK.
- Select the option to capture pictures. It’s worth mentioning that you don’t need to be close to the camera to achieve this; just take a picture of whatever is in the room.
- Choose Yes, then Confirm.
- Select OK.
- Move the left crosshair in the left camera with the D-pad a certain amount of times — see the chart below for an estimate of how many clicks you’ll need. For example, if your IPD is 59mm, you should move the left crosshair five clicks to the right.
- Press the X button on your controller.
- To restore the usual location of the right crosshair on the left camera, press X on your controller once again.
- The right camera’s left crosshair should be moved the same number of times as the left camera’s left crosshair. For example, I’ll reposition the left crosshair five clicks to the right.
- Press the X button on your controller.
- To restore the default location of the right crosshair on the right camera, press X on your controller once again.
- Select OK.
The interpupillary distance between your eyes will now be changed to match the ruler measurement.
Interpupillary distance chart for PlayStation VR
I’ve attached a copy of the chart for your convenience. The number of clicks corresponds to how many times you move the left crosshair in both cameras using the D-pad on your DualShock 4 controller.

Vlaird deserves credit for finding out how many clicks it takes and for spreading the word about this ingenious method.

If you’ve been playing games on your PlayStation VR headset, you’re probably aware that the settings menu allows you to change the interpupillary distance (IPD). This is one of my favorite aspects since it helps me feel more at ease while I’m playing. In this post, I’ll teach you how to manually adjust the IPD on the PlayStation VR headset through the settings menu.
Most Commonly Asked Questions
Is it possible to change the IPD on PSVR?
The knob-game settings on the PSVR do not allow you to change your IPD. You may modify your IPD using VorpX, a third-party software that enables you to play non-VR games with the PSVR.
How do you set up IPD VR?
The lenses must first be adjusted to fit the width of your eyes, which is known as IPD adjustment. You should do this while wearing your glasses. Then go to the VR app where you may adjust your IPD. Take your time and follow the app’s instructions. Keep in mind that if your I
What is the difference between manual IPD adjustment and automatic IPD adjustment?
You may change your IPD setting manually on the fly using manual IPD adjustment. If Oculus set a bad IPD number when you initially set up your Rift, or if you want greater control over your IPD setting, this is helpful. Q: Which Beat Saber modifications are the best?
